20 Paddler Dragon Boat Race at One of Oregon’s Spectacular 7 Wonders
Race in one of the most beautiful venues in the Pacific Northwest. Wallowa Lake is positioned at the foot of the majestic Wallowa Mountain Range. The race will be held at the south end of Wallowa Lake and will take advantage of the facilities at the Wallowa Lake Marina and the part of the day use areas of the Wallowa Lake State Park. Wallowa Lake’s calm current-free waters will make for an excellent race venue.
The race committee, together with Wallowa State Park, has arranged for up to 100 paddlers to be allowed to camp for a nominal fee in the Riverside Day Use Area adjacent to the team’s staging area. Showers and bathrooms are available a short walking distance in the state park campgrounds. Please contact the race committee at DRAGON IN THE WALLOWAS.COM
The State Park also has spaces in the official campground for over 200 RV and additional tent camping sites and full bathroom and shower facilities at the Wallowa State Park Campground. The race entry fee will be $900 per team for all events and bus transportation before June 15, 2018, and $1000 per team thereafter. The final deadline for registration will be August 1, 2018. Note: A maximum of thirty teams will be accepted and they will be chosen on a first-come basis.

Race Event Descriptions
The races will consist of four separate events, two held on Saturday and two held on Sunday. Saturday’s races will be a traditional four-lane 250-meter race and a similar 50o-meter race. There will also be two timed practice races for the slalom on Saturday which will not count toward the overall race results. Sunday will be a second four-lane 500-meter race, and the second race will feature one-lane course/slalom. Each team will race head-to-head once on each course. The finish order for the serpentine will be determined by combined best time for both runs.
Medals will awarded to each division to the top three finishing teams by combining all heat times in the 500 meter races. Medals will be awarded in each division to the top three finishing teams for the best overall combined. Combined awards will use times for the best salmon run, best time in the Saturday 250 meter, and all 500 meter times. The best overall combined time will be awarded the WALLOWA LAKE 7 WONDERS CUP TROPHY to the best team overall using the best combined placement overall in all divisions. The trophy will be a seasonal traveling trophy kept in the winning team’s possession until the next Wallowa Lake 7 Wonders Cup race.
